The Study Programme of the Department of Biology at the University of Crete has a duration of eight (8) academic semesters and corresponds to 240 ECTS credits. The programme includes compulsory, compulsory elective, and elective courses in the fundamental and applied fields of biology, such as molecular biology, genetics, cell and developmental biology, biochemistry, microbiology, ecology, evolutionary biology, marine biology, and biotechnology. The programme combines theoretical instruction, extensive laboratory training, research activity, and the opportunity to complete a dissertation and/or practical training. The Department does not include formal specialization streams, but it offers students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in specific scientific fields through elective courses and research activities.
