Description
Upon completion of their studies, graduates of the Direction for Community Health of the Department of Public and Community Health, have the necessary scientific knowledge and skills and are engaged, either independently or in collaboration with other scientists, in the field of Health and Social Services, focused on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs relating to care and health promotion as part of the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Emphasis is placed on providing services at home, at school, at the workplace and at the community in general. A Professional Health Visitor deals mainly and with priority with the protection and promotion of health for the most vulnerable population groups such as new mothers, infants / children, adolescents, the elderly, people with special health problems and persons at risk of social exclusion. In this context, the role of the Health Visitor is particularly important and relevant for the achievement of community and public health, since it addresses contemporary and substantive requirements that have shaped and continue to shape the field of primary health care.
Relation to Employment
The Degree of the Direction of Community Health of the Department of Public and Community Health is necessary for practicing the profession of Health Visitor (the professional license of a Health Visitor is required).
* The Department of Health Visitors and the Department of Public Health, School of Health and Caring Professions of Athens TEI since 01/09/2013 have been merged into the new Department of Public and Community Health, with the introductory directions: a) Public Health, and b) Community Health pursuant to Presidential Decree 95/2013 (Government Gazette 133 / 05.06.2013, bulletin A).
