Description

The aim for the graduates is to understand the properties of objects of historical and artistic importance in order to prevent their deterioration, enhance their ability to discern what is genuine and what is fake, and facilitate the approach for all users to objects and monuments of cultural heritage. Graduates of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art from the Technical Educational Institute of Athens work in museums, public agencies, private conservation companies or independently, with the purpose of protecting cultural heritage. In particular, their responsibilities are: The Technical Examination, Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological Findings and Works of Art. The Elaboration of Conservation and Restoration Studies for Archaeological Findings and Works of Art. The preparation of studies or reports on the organization and operation of maintenance workshops. Development of new maintenance technologies, in collaboration with other disciplines and institutions. Participation and conduct of research projects independently or as members of research groups on subjects of their expertise. The preserver has full responsibility for any intervention on the objects of his/her expertise, but does not create new cultural or artistic objects. The Code of Ethics for the Profession of Conservator of Antiquities and Works of Art defines these activities.

Relation to Employment

The qualification is required to obtain the professional license.
