Description

The Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences is awarded by the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of West Attica. The programme provides comprehensive education in biomedical sciences, combining theoretical knowledge, laboratory training and applied research. It covers medical laboratory sciences, radiology and radiotherapy, optometry and optics, aesthetics and cosmetology, and public health, aiming to promote health, disease prevention, diagnosis and support of therapeutic procedures.

Graduates find employment in public and private hospitals, diagnostic and research laboratories, radiology and radiation therapy units, biomedical technology companies, public health institutions, beauty salons, optical stores, and other healthcare facilities, depending on their area of specialization.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

A high school diploma and successful completion of the Panhellenic or placement exams are required. The degree is awarded upon successful completion of eight semesters and 240 ECTS credits.

Knowledge

Graduates possess comprehensive and specialized knowledge in the broad field of Biomedical Sciences and their applications. They acquire a strong scientific background in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biostatistics and Research Methodology, together with specialized knowledge in their selected division. This knowledge enables them to understand normal and pathophysiological processes and to support modern diagnostic, therapeutic and research applications in health sciences.
 

Skills

Graduates develop skills in applying modern laboratory, diagnostic and technological methods, operating specialized biomedical equipment, collecting, analysing and evaluating scientific data, implementing research methodologies and solving problems in health sciences. They also develop skills in scientific documentation, effective communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and continuous updating of their knowledge in line with scientific developments.
