Description

The Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics is offered by the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of the School of Health Sciences and Education at Harokopio University. The programme covers the full spectrum of nutrition and dietetics, from nutrients and foods to clinical nutrition, public health and health promotion. Students acquire a strong theoretical and laboratory background and develop the scientific knowledge and professional skills required for nutritional assessment, dietetic intervention and health promotion.

Relation to Employment

The program trains dietitians and nutritionists for careers in hospitals, clinics, primary care facilities, the food industry, food service businesses, research institutions, public organizations, sports organizations, and private dietetic practices.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (High School Diploma) and successful participation in national-level examinations.

Knowledge

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the biological, medical, social and food sciences that underpin Dietetics and Nutrition.
• Understand the principles of human nutrition, metabolism, disease prevention, health promotion and nutrition therapy for healthy individuals and special population groups.
• Understand food composition, nutrients, food safety, food quality and quality assurance systems in food service operations.
• Possess knowledge of research methodology and the design of research protocols in nutrition, lifestyle and health.

Skills

• Assess the nutritional status of individuals and population groups and apply the nutrition care process using evidence-based methods.
• Design, implement and evaluate nutrition interventions, programmes and policies aimed at promoting health and sustainable nutrition.
• Analyse and interpret scientific evidence and use modern technologies to support nutritional assessment and counselling.
• Support food safety and quality management and contribute to the development of innovative food products and nutrition-related services.
