Description
The Degree of the Department of Preschool Education of the University of Crete certifies the completion of studies in Educational Sciences and provides graduates with academic and pedagogical training for the education and care of preschool-aged children. The program combines theoretical knowledge and practical training in fields such as pedagogy, psychology, didactics, social and humanities sciences, and child development, fostering skills in teaching, communication, research, and the organization of learning activities within the context of preschool education.
Relation to Employment
Holders of the Degree of the Department of Preschool Education may be employed in preschool education, in formal and non-formal education and care structures, in children’s creative activity centers, and support of preschool-aged children. The curriculum provides academic, pedagogical, and teaching training, while also including practical training and educational activities that enhance students’ professional preparation. For employment in education, graduates are classified under the PE60.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission to the program requires a high school diploma and successful participation in national-level examinations or qualifying examinations.
Knowledge
Graduates of the Program acquire knowledge in Educational Sciences, the pedagogical and psychological development of preschool-aged children, as well as contemporary teaching approaches and methodologies in preschool education. At the same time, they become familiar with issues related to learning, creative expression, socialization, and child development, as well as with the use of educational and digital tools for the organization and support of the learning process within the context of preschool education.
Skills
Graduates of the Program develop skills in planning, organizing, and implementing learning and creative activities in preschool education by applying contemporary pedagogical and teaching approaches. At the same time, they acquire communication, collaboration, and educational process management skills, as well as competencies in the use of educational and digital material, the observation and assessment of children’s development, and the connection of theoretical knowledge with educational practice through practical training and the educational activities of the curriculum.
Competences
Graduates of the Program are able to respond to the demands of preschool education, organize and implement pedagogical and learning activities, and adapt the educational process to the needs and characteristics of preschool-aged children. At the same time, they are capable of applying pedagogical and academic knowledge in educational and social contexts, collaborating with the educational community and children’s families, and participating in research, educational, and training activities with professional responsibility and critical thinking.
