Description
The Degree in History and Archaeology of the University of Crete certifies the completion of studies in the fields of History, Archaeology, and Art History, providing graduates with specialized knowledge of the historical development of societies and their material and cultural heritage from antiquity to the modern era. Graduates acquire theoretical training, research and analytical skills, as well as competencies in the documentation, interpretation, and utilization of historical and archaeological data within academic, educational, cultural, and research contexts.
Relation to Employment
Graduates of the History and Archaeology degree may pursue employment in the fields of historical and archaeological research, cultural heritage management and promotion, museums, libraries, research centres, and cultural institutions. The curriculum also includes courses leading to the acquisition of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence Certification. For employment in education, graduates are classified under the PE02 Philologists sector.
Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities
Admission to the program requires a high school diploma and successful participation in national-level examinations or qualifying examinations.
Knowledge
Graduates possess specialized knowledge in the sciences of Physical Education and Sport, at both theoretical and applied levels. They understand the physiological functions of the human body at rest and during exercise, as well as the psychological and social dimensions of movement, exercise, and athletic performance. They are also able to identify dysfunctions that may occur during exercise and understand the principles of ethics, professional conduct, and inclusion in the field of Physical Education and Sport.
Skills
Graduates develop skills in the critical analysis and interpretation of historical and archaeological data, the use of primary and secondary sources, and the application of scientific research methods in the fields of History, Archaeology, and Art History. In addition, they acquire competencies in the organization and documentation of cultural material, the preparation of academic work, written and oral communication, as well as collaboration within educational, research, and cultural environments that require critical and synthetic thinking.

Graduates are able to conduct independent and collaborative research, evaluate and synthesize historical and archaeological information, and apply their academic knowledge in educational, research, and cultural contexts.
