Description

 The degree of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of Serres provides scientific training in physical education, sport, and health promotion, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Graduates acquire the knowledge and skills needed to design, organize, and implement physical education and exercise programs in educational, athletic, and social settings. The degree corresponds to Level 6 of the National and European Qualifications Frameworks.

Relation to Employment

Holders of the degree may be employed in the fields of Physical Education, Sport, Exercise, and Health Promotion, in both school-based and non-school settings, as well as in sports and social organizations. The curriculum also includes courses in Pedagogy, which support the educational dimension of the degree and broaden the opportunities for its professional utilization, in accordance with the applicable institutional framework. For employment in education, is PE11 Physical Education.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a high school diploma and successful participation in national-level examinations or qualifying examinations.

Knowledge

Graduates possess specialized knowledge in the sciences of Physical Education and Sport, at both theoretical and applied levels. They understand the physiological functions of the human body at rest and during exercise, as well as the psychological and social dimensions of movement, exercise, and athletic performance. They are also able to identify dysfunctions that may occur during exercise and understand the principles of ethics, professional conduct, and inclusion in the field of Physical Education and Sport

Graduates possess skills in designing and implementing programmes in physical education, exercise, training, and recreation, tailored to the needs of different population groups. They apply pedagogical and teaching methods, use modern assessment tools and new technologies, and contribute to the promotion of health and quality of life.

Graduates are able to undertake, with responsibility, the planning and implementation of Physical Education and Exercise interventions with social, economic, and cultural impact, as well as administrative and organizational duties in school, sport, and social settings. They also function effectively in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams, developing critical thinking, communication, and decision-making skills, while maintaining the capacity for lifelong learning and adaptation to contemporary developments in the field.
