Description

 The Degree in Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki provides education in the field of Legal Studies, aiming at the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and methodology of the main branches of law. The programme has a duration of four (4) years, is structured in eight (8) semesters, and corresponds to 240 ECTS credits, including compulsory courses, limited elective courses, and free elective courses.

Relation to Employment

Graduates of the department of Law may be employed in the public and private sector, particularly in legal services, public administration, and related institutions, being classified under the PE Legal sector, in accordance with the applicable institutional framework. For access to legal professions, such as lawyer, judicial officer, and notary public, the acquisition of the prescribed professional licence is required, in accordance with the applicable legislation.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a high school diploma and successful participation in national-level examinations or qualifying examinations.

Knowledge

Graduates of the Degree in Law possess knowledge of the main branches of legal science, such as civil, criminal, and public law, as well as European and international law. In addition, they understand the functioning of legal institutions and the legal system, as well as the principles governing the interpretation and application of legal rules.

Skills

Graduates of the Degree in Law develop skills in legal analysis, interpretation, and application of legal rules, as well as skills in legal research, writing, and presentation of academic work. The programme aims both at providing fundamental knowledge and methodology of the core areas of legal science and at introducing students to specialized fields and legal research through the preparation, writing, and presentation of assignments.

Competences

 Graduates of the Degree in Law are capable of applying the fundamental knowledge and methodology of the main branches of law, approaching more specialized fields, conducting legal research, and preparing, writing, and presenting legal papers. In addition, they develop the ability to interpret the law, construct legal arguments, and analyse and synthesize legal issues.
