Description

The Degree in Social Theology and Christian Culture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki provides education in the field of Theology, with emphasis on the relationship of the Orthodox Christian tradition with society and culture. The programme has a duration of eight (8) semesters and corresponds to 240 ECTS credits. It includes the following specializations: Social Theology and Study of Religion and Christian Culture.

Admission to the program requires a high school diploma and successful participation in national-level examinations.

Knowledge

Graduates possess specialized knowledge in the study of Holy Scripture, patristic literature, ecclesiastical history, dogmatics, liturgics, pastoral theology, Canon Law, Christian ethics, pedagogy, and Christian Culture. In addition, they acquire knowledge relating to inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue, the relationship between Theology, society, and culture, as well as the use of Information Technology in theological research and education.

Skills

Graduates of the Department develop skills in teaching, scientific research, and critical analysis in matters relating to Holy Scripture, patristic literature, ecclesiastical history, Byzantine culture, liturgical life, pastoral theology, Canon Law, Christian ethics, and pedagogy. In addition, they acquire skills in conducting inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue, applying theological knowledge in education and ecclesiastical practice, and using information systems in theological research and education.

Competences

 Graduates are able to interpret and critically assess theological, ecclesiastical, and social issues, to apply theological knowledge in research, teaching, and professional practice, to work independently or as part of a team, and to act with respect for human rights, diversity, and professional ethics.
