Description

The aim of the Department is to provide students with theoretical and practical training in journalism, enhance research in journalism and the mass media, as well as reinforce the efforts made to safeguard the rights of journalists in Greece. The School of Journalism and Mass Communications offers a BA Honours degree in a) Journalism, and b) Mass Media.

Relation to Employment

Graduates of the Department may pursue careers in the fields of mass media, communication, and information, as well as in public and private sector organizations active in journalism, advertising, public relations, and political communication.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (High School Diploma) and successful participation in national-level examinations.

Knowledge

Graduates acquire solid knowledge of the theory and practice of Journalism and Mass Media, gaining an understanding of the functioning of media systems, political and social institutions, as well as contemporary information and communication technologies.

Skills

Journalism track: production of journalistic texts, research and analysis of information, use of modern technologies, adherence to journalistic ethics, and promotion of freedom of expression.

Mass Media track: application of theory in fields such as advertising, public relations, and political communication, conducting research, analyzing the operation of media institutions, and promoting democratic values.

Competences

Graduates are able to communicate in a second language, use modern technological tools, work both independently and collaboratively, think creatively, respect diversity, and promote critical and responsible approaches to professional and social issues.
