The Department of Economics of the School of Social and Economic Sciences provides significant educational and research work with the aim of contributing to the advancement of Economic Science and the training of highly qualified economists. The Department offers a comprehensive curriculum that provides a high level of economic education and prepares competent professionals capable of responding to the present and future needs of the economy and society, at both national and international levels. This program is adapted to the Greek context and aims to provide specialized knowledge in Economics as well as in the various functions of business.

Relation to Employment

The Undergraduate Program of the Department of Economics aims to educate professionals who understand and apply the principles of Economic Science and Management. At the same time, it provides knowledge and skills for professional practice in the fields of economics, management, and education, securing the corresponding professional rights of its graduates.

Access Requirements / Progression Opportunities

Admission to the program requires a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (High School Diploma) and successful participation in national-level examinations.

Knowledge

Upon completion of the undergraduate program of the Department of Economics, graduates acquire knowledge of the fields of Economics and Business Administration and are able to apply their core principles in specific areas of study. In particular, they are capable of applying the principles of economics in areas such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, public economics, development economics, industrial organization, and economic policy, as well as the principles of business administration in fields such as finance, accounting, management, marketing, and operations research.

Skills

Graduates of the Department of Economics develop mathematical and statistical skills for the analysis, modelling, and empirical study of economic phenomena. They understand the importance of the rational management of economic resources and are able to evaluate the theoretical and practical dimensions of economic issues in the international environment. In addition, they cultivate critical thinking on matters of economic activity, corporate governance, and corporate social responsibility, as well as skills in collaboration, initiative-taking, and effective time management.

Competences

Graduates will have developed the ability to effectively present business reports and projects using modern technological tools and will have acquired the necessary knowledge and abilities to pursue postgraduate studies in the fields of Economics and Business Administration.
