Description
According to European and international standards, the Optician - Optimeter is the healthcare professional who has the following objective:
- the primary examination, diagnosis, and recording of vision problems, without the use of pharmaceutical treatment, by checking: binocular vision, vision in persons of all ages (children, adults, seniors), of vision in the disabled, vision in persons with low vision issues, colour and 3D vision, vision at work, vision in special groups, e.g. athletes;
- the restoration of vision, by prescribing: vision glasses, contact lenses, low vision accessories, orthooptic exercises or other exercises, visual training and by any other means, non-interventional and non-pharmaceutical;
- the verification of an organic or systemic condition or dysfunction, either in the eye or in the optic system, and the immediate referral of patients to an ophthalmologist / ophthalmology clinic or to the relevant physician when making any such discovery.
Relation to Employment
The graduate of the Department of Optics and Optometry may work as an Optician / Optimeter, as per the relevant Greek law.
