Relation to Employment
The Postgraduate Studies Programme named "Sciences of Education and Lifelong Learning" aims to the diffusion of modern approaches for education and lifelong learning on issues of educational management and leadership, and informatics - new technologies in education. Specifically, Direction "Educational Management and Leadership" is going to cover a very important gap in the current Greek reality. It is now understood in the field of education that there is a need to upgrade professionally the educational executive (Regional Directors, School Consultants, Education Managers, Directors of School Units and other educational executives), since most of them do not hold specialised and certified university studies in the specific subject. To this end, the Postgraduate Studies Programme offers to the already serving educators of the public and private sectors, and to the future ones, the opportunity of acquiring the suitable scientific knowledge, skills, and competences that refer to the organization and management of education, in order for them to be capable of successfully coping with the demands of modern educational leadership.
Specifically, the graduates of the Postgraduate Studies Programme with Direction "Educational Management and Leadership" will be able to find employment: (a) as executives in general public and private schools of Primary and Secondary Education, in School Units of Special Training and Education, in Institutes of Vocational Training, as well as in lifelong education and training organisations [e.g. Secretariat General for Lifelong Learning, Foundation for Youth and Lifelong Learning (INEDIVIM), E.O.P.P.E.P., Hellenic Workforce Organisation (OAED), etc.] in Centres for Lifelong Learning (KDVM) and in Centres for Vocational Training, (b) as executives in the central public bodies of education and life-long learning, and (c) in the conduct of educational research, in the study and preparation of educational programmes, as well as in the development and application of educational policies and practices focused on the management of education.
The Direction of "ICT in Education" shall cover the verified need of integrating ICTs in the entire spectrum of the Primary and Secondary Education (and also of Preschool Education) in all of its expressions: in formal and non-formal education (such as Second Chance Schools), in General Upper Secondary Schools and in Vocational and Technical Upper Secondary Schools, and generally in all forms of education conducted prior Post-Secondary, Post Upper Secondary and Higher Education. It is understood that Informatics and New Technologies in general comprise a special cognitive subject and a means for the improvement of teaching and learning. Nevertheless, education must take into consideration new social practices and the special framework where social relations are formulated, growing in cyberspace and are known as digital literacy.
The programme of the Direction "ICT in Education" is addressed to active and future educators, of all specialties (not just of Information Technology), who wish to upgrade their vocational qualifications and substantially improve their teaching methods, by incorporating new technologies and their teaching concerns in the framework of digital literacy.
