Description

Knowledge: A) Basic knowledge on economics, law, and social sciences.
B) Good knowledge of Russian or Turkish language, and basic knowledge of another Balkan or Slavic or Eastern language.
C) Knowledge of the social and economic history, of cultural differences, and of modern economic-social developments in the Balkan countries, of East Europe, and of the Near East.
D) Specialised economic, bank, and financial knowledge for the business and investment operations in the Balkans, in the East Europe, and in the Near East.

Skills: Competence of working within an international environment, awareness about the problems of intercultural communication, adaptability to foreign labour conditions.

Competences: Use of the knowledge on the scientific developments and capacity of practical use and work based on the knowledge on issues related to the modern financial, social, and political state of play in the Balkans, in East Europe, and in the Near East.

Relation to Employment

The graduates of the Department may work in the public and private sector, and in international organisations, both in Greece and abroad. Specifically, they may work:
1) In public businesses and Ministries as executives, consultants, and experts.
2) In private businesses and banks developing business and investing activities in the Balkans, in East Europe, and in the Near East.
3) In the Diplomatic Corps, as educational and financial attachés or experts.
4) In International Organisations for Development and Humanitarian Help, and in Non-Government Organisations, such as the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Organisation for the Reconstruction of the Balkans, OXFAM, Médecins Sans Frontières, European Perspective.
5) In research institutions in Greece and abroad, active in the Balkans, in the East Europe and Near East.
6) In publishing houses.

The graduates of the Department are registered in the Greek Chamber of Economy, provided they have attended courses of Financial Direction. In addition, they participate in recruitment procedures by the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) for Administrative / Financial positions requiring University Education graduates in the state.
