Description

Upon consolidating the analytical and composite character of the Postgraduate Studies Programme, as well as by connecting the theoretical to the research and applied cycle of courses, students acquire knowledge and develop skills in the following sectors:
a) They acquire knowledge with regard to the thematic axes analysed above, as well as skills of methodological design, social analysis, and for the conduct of applied social research on the thematic fields. This education includes the accurate formulation of research questions and hypotheses, resulting from comprehensive theoretical delving into the thematic subjects, the development of a research plan and of research techniques, the procedure for collecting data, the qualitative and quantitative processing thereof, and finally the writing of results, some of which may be published following collaboration by the faculty.
b) The promotion of approaches bridging theory with experiential research, ensuring the theoretical examination and the experientially documented formulation of policies of social cohesion and development.
c) The familiarization and comprehension of specialized techniques of quantitative and qualitative analysis of data, mainly oriented towards secondary data analysis and primary research.
d) The application of the above skills to the design, organization, and management of programmes for social development, as well as to the formulation of new policies of European, national, and regional governance.
e) The processing of proposals for alternative models of social development, based on the local and regional specificities, with the purpose of promoting social and financial integration of socially vulnerable groups and the mitigation of risks for social marginalization.
This programme is interdisciplinary, since it is not exclusively limited to the further specialisation of Sociologists, but also refers to the familiarization with general and specific cognitive domains of Sociology and to the learning of methods and techniques of the research procedure for a wider spectrum of Social Sciences, including graduates of Humanitarian Sciences. Moreover, Sociologists attending this programme enrich their knowledge on specific issues of Sociology and Experiential Research
