Description
Upon acquiring the degree, the holder shall be able to:
- specify with a scientific method the study and the research approach of social issues (e.g. unemployment, poverty, social discrimination, immigration, etc.);
- design and suggest social policy, while raising the awareness the local communities on issues of vulnerable social teams and social discrimination, while drawing attention for the social analysis of composite and current socio-political developments;
- analyse the structure and the function of societies in their development, along with the characteristic of social change;
- study national and local social problems of social inequalities, social diversities, social stratification, social discrimination, etc.;
- design with an appropriate and creative method methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative, for the conduct of social research using methods and tools of social science;
- create, document and make use of research and other social databases;
- approach in a modern and methodical way issues of Social Policy and Regional Development;
- improve the interest in common affairs at social structure level, and for the daily life of citizens;
- suggest policies at local and national level in order to deal with the consequences of social problems with a limited or wider range and theme (sports violence, single parenthood, conciliation between professional and family life, xenophobia, etc.).
Relation to Employment
The graduate of the Sociology Department is allowed to exercise the profession of the Sociology and is qualified for appointment as an Educator in the Secondary Education, in category Sociologist - University Education 10.
