Learning Outcomes
Following the completion of their studies, graduate Electrical Engineers from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete will have obtained the necessary knowledge to work as Electrical Engineers or continue their studies for a postgraduate diploma. The graduates of the Department, upon the successful completion of the programme of studies, in addition to the core knowledge of the science and technology of Electrical Engineering, and the ability to practice their occupation, will have been educated to have the following competences:
- successfully put their knowledge into practice;
- search for, analyse and synthesise data and information, by using suitable and modern technologies;
- adjust to new situations, stay up to date on developments, and take decisions;
- work autonomously or participate in groups in any national or international interdisciplinary environment;
- design and manage projects of various sizes and complexity;
- generate new ideas for research; and
- promote free and creating thinking.
Apart from the above knowledge and skills, resulting from the content and the learning outcomes of the courses of the basic cycle of the curriculum, each graduate shall acquire additional specialized knowledge and skills coming from the content and the learning outcomes of the direction courses selected, as well as from the subject of his/her dissertation and the six-month practice. These specialized knowledge and skills fall into one of the two basic specialization directions of (1) Telecommunications and (2) Automation and Informatics, which are offered by the Department, thus increasing the general competences of its graduates and securing special scientific and technological knowledge and skills in specific areas of the science and technology of the Electrical Engineer, maximizing the ability for independent and life-long learning, ensuring constant updating and the acquisition of modern knowledge.
Skills:
The graduate Electronic Engineer of the Technological Educational Institute of Crete has the theoretical background and practical experience to work successfully, either on his/her own or in collaboration with other scientists and engineers on fields such as:
- analogue and digital electronic accessories, the respective modules, the systems, and the instrumentation;
- telecommunications (wired and wireless, microwave and optical, mobile and satellite) and the digital data communications;
- power electronics, industrial electronics and automations, automated control and mechatronics systems;
- audiovisual systems and the respective facilities, radio and TV, audio and image processing, multimedia;
- computer and software technology, computer networks, the internet and IT services, telematics applications;
- sensors, measurements and systems for the collection and digital processing of data;
- microelectronics, integrated circuits, and material structures;
- biomedical electronic technology and processing of biomedical signals;
- protection and fire safety systems and quality assurance systems;
- electromagnetic fields and electromagnetic compatibility, radars and defensive technologies;
- organic electronics and plasma technologies, optoelectronic technologies and laser systems;
- electronic systems of environmental technologies and of conventional and renewable energy sources.
Competences:
In the above subjects and respective technology fields, the Electronic Engineer of Crete T.E.I. can undertake responsibly tasks and engage accordingly with fields such as:
- study, design, construction, fine tuning, production, and installation of the relevant electronic equipment, at module and system level;
- operation, control, supervision, maintenance and repair of the respective equipment;
- organization and supervision of production, assembly or manufacture of the respective modules and systems;
- preparation of technical and financial-technical studies, feasibility and suitability studies, as well as of expert reports;
- certification, quality control and control of electromagnetic compatibility for equipment and installations;
- establishment, organisation, and management of businesses;
- provision of technical and consulting services;
- design and implementation of programmes of basic and applied research for the progress of science and technology.
Upon completing their studies, the graduates of the Department shall have the necessary scientific and technological knowledge and skills to be able to engage with every field of their cognitive field in the private and public sector, or through self-employment.
Relation to Employment
The degree of the Department is necessary in order to work as professional Electronic Engineer of Technological Education, since it includes statutory vocational rights, as per P.D. 346 (Government Gazette 158/14-6-1989).
