Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) is one of the country’s most important academic institutions and ranks among the largest regional universities in Greece. It was founded in 1973 and began operations in the 1974–1975 academic year, with its main campus in Komotini and university facilities in cities across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, such as Xanthi, Alexandroupoli, Orestiada, Didymoteicho, Drama, and Kavala. The Democritus University of Thrace currently consists of 10 Schools and 28 Departments, covering a wide range of academic fields, from the humanities and social sciences to the health sciences, the natural sciences, and technology. The university offers 29 undergraduate programs, as well as a significant number of graduate and doctoral programs, which are implemented both at the departmental level and through interdepartmental and interuniversity collaborations.
